I just saw the writing on the wall ...
I was standing outside the house surveying the mammoth task work to be done on that section of the garden, I suddenly turned to the wall and noticed it - can you spot it ?
It was literally 'writing on the wall':
We have lived here for over 15 years, but I had never seen this before. It all made sense though, alas, there was no mystery to unravel.
This house was brought back from ruin by its previous owners during the 80s. One of the main workers, Michael Williams, RIP, was proud of his work on the lane. He obviously also worked repairing and repointing the stone walls and left a reminder for future generations.
I know there's another date inscription on the outside of the house which is much, much older but it's currently covered in ivy.
Now the mystery for you : was this a clear case of serendipity (ie when you suddenly see something obvious) or was it a ghostly encounter ? 😧
Do you believe in ghosts ?
Depends what you mean by ghosts. If you mean stuff that happens but we don't know or understand what it is and "ghosts" is one of the stories we have created to explain what it is (or even just because we like a good story), then, yes 😊. If you mean troubled souls who can't free themselves to travel elsewhere and who have a purpose in this world, then no 😎. Although a very good spooky story to tell on long dark nights around the fire or huddled together in skins when there was no distracting electric light or telly or steemit.
On the other hand, maybe you spotted it at that moment because Michael might be trying to send you a message. Something like, "yes, that section of the garden has always been a bit of a problem - leave it to its natural devices/you'll feel better when it's finally done*". * Delete options as takes your fancy.
Thanks @shanibeer... I think I will choose the last option.
I'll definitely feel better when it's finally done, but it will take a lot of effort and back breaking bending. (I tend to 'circle' rather than 'delete' options because I'm never sure when I get 'delete as appropriate' by the way 😊).
Incidentally, how is your garden coming along ?
I guess it's more the how do you eat an elephant option - one bite at a time. I tend to rush into things and do an eight-hour stint and end up forlorn, debris everywhere and nothing for my tea (well, bread and jam). I'm trying to learn to do two-hour chunks - one hour working and one hour clearing up. I'm just starting in my garden, now that I'm back from holiday and have a bit more energy. Pictures soon ...
And the weather has been really good for gardening ... I've just come back in from cutting 'the lawn'... that was very hard work @shanibeer
I don't believe in ghosts @cryptocariad, especially ones that can write in mortar! 😁
I'm frequently surprised by things I spot that have been around for years and that I've never noticed before
🌺 I agree with you, @gillianpearce, on the noticing things more - in my case it's mainly plants !
I was always OK at noticing plants @cryptocariad. I'm seeing shadows and rooftops and bricks and stuff more now. 😊
I guess the simple answer to your question for me would be no, I don't believe in ghosts, or people who have actually lived on Earth, died, and somehow get trapped between here and any sort of afterlife.
Which would mean, I guess, that MW 1990 was not really communicating anything other than its intended purpose, as you said—Michael Williams worked on the wall and wanted to commemorate it.
However, I do believe in some things happening for a reason, and perhaps the writing can serve the purpose of reminding you, and by extension then, all of us, that time is short, waits for no one, and there are always something that needs to be done. So carpe diem. :)
oh yes, how we interpret the world to make sense of it, @glenalbrethsen, so to me it's also carpe diem and carpe tempus 😊
