Wow, Archaeologists Find Big Cities Lost in the United States, Like What?
Archaeologists have discovered the location of a lost city in the most unlikely place.
This civilization was not found in thick bushes, nor was it guarded by evil spirits.
Rather it is found in a simple rural field in the heart of the US.
Reporting from IFL Science, Tuesday (08/21/2018), the location of the lost city was discovered by Donald Blakeslee, a Wichita State University professor.
Namely at Etzanoa, Arkansas City, Kansas, not far from the Oklahoma border.
This settlement is probably one of the largest Native American settlements ever built.
Spanish colonialists have written about the size and complexity of a large city, however, the city has vanished with a trace in 1700.
"Spaniards are amazed by the size of Etzanoa," Blakeslee said.
"They counted 2,000 houses that could accommodate 10 people each," he continued.
In 2015, Blakeslee and his student team dug near Arkansas City.
Locals have found a lot of metal artifacts there, but a nail-like discovery disturbs Blakeslee's mind.
According to Blakeslee, the nail looked as if it had been thrown from the cannon of the Spanish conquistador.
The description of the city by the Spanish conquistadors explained that a major battle took place there in 1601.
The people of Etzanoa also provided attacks until the fighting broke out and cannon guns were fired.
More than 100 years later, when other European colonizers came to the area, Etzanoa people left.
An analysis in 2013 helped shed light on the location of the battle and Etzanoa.
Using a re-analysis of this document, Blakeslee argued that the field in Arkansas City was indeed a battleground in 1601.
However, little is known about the people of Etzanoa, although most anthropologists believe that the indigenous population was related to the Wichita Nation.
