Interesting facts about the alcoholic usages of soldiers and officers of the Red Army. Military alcoholism is a myth.4

in #history8 years ago

I will analyze a concrete and well-known example of post-war alcoholism of a truly great scientist Yu.V. Knorozova.

This is the very genius that "without leaving the office" deciphered the Maya writing. His alcoholism is reliable, his pupil GG was distressed about this. Ershova and the student Pyatigorskiy AM - Serious, venerable scientists. Indeed, after the war Knorozov consumed a liter of vodka after the war.

But his military biography in his alcoholism, with nothing, in my opinion. The future great historian and ethnographer was declared unfit for military service, he fell into the German occupation on the territory of Ukraine. In the Red Army was called in only in March 1944 and he served exclusively in the rear units. First, in the school of repairmen, and then the telephone operator near Moscow. And already in 1945, demobilized-students of universities here had an advantage. I do not see the conditions under which Knorozov could become an alcoholic "because of the war".

The maximum that he was supposed to do was 100 gr on holidays, only 10 times a year. Knorozov passed away in 1999, all forgotten, in the corridor of the hospital. In 2012 in Cancun (Mexico) he was installed a monument. I will express my idea about the alleged "frontline alcoholism" with one sentence: -In the alcoholism of the Slavic veterans in the 60-70s of the 20th century, the "daily" front-line, "commissar", "Voroshilov" "100 grams" is to blame for the last.

Drink under the influence of the environment, drink from despair, drink from the weakness of will and character. In the war, someone reveled in free alcohol. Someone did not see him at all-for example, after being surrounded, the cauldron, to the guerrillas, carrying the service not on the front line, not taking part in the offensive, because of the theft of the intendants, supply shortages in the rear services, etc. Conclusion: In general, vodka certainly played a role in the victory. Some brave researchers even put it on a par with tanks and katyushas. I think that this is an exaggeration on their part.

But to deny the relaxing, stimulating and warming effect of alcohol (albeit insignificant, as teetotalers say) in the stressful situation of the war - it is not worth it. On this I end the topic with the Commissar's 100 gr.

Further I plan to write a cycle about the "commissar's snack" and every other such, from trench truth.
