In the past, there was a king of Jepara who had a very beautiful wife. Many people praise her beauty, to the extent that the queen himself wants to be made a statue of herself.

Due to the queen's insistence, the king then orders his patih to seek his people who have the expertise to carve. When a patih visited a village, meet him with a man. The Patih asks for clues, where is the expert who carves. The man he met About the origin of Ki Joko Sungging, Karmadi and Kartadarmadja (1985: 6-7) mentions two versions. First, Patih Sungging Badan Duwung "is the foster father of Prince Hadiri from Campa country. The original name of Patih Sungging is "Chi Hui Gwan.

After meeting the Prince Hadiri in Jepara, he was made a patih by Prince Hadiri then renamed the Patih Sungging Duwung Agency. In Jepara, around 1481, he was assisted by residents around Mantingan village, making carvings of Chinese decorative motifs and Majapahit. From this Sungging Patih Jepara people first recognize the carvings. The second version, carving art recognition figure is Prabangkara, a master sculptor who lived during the reign of King Brawijaya. Prabangkara was assigned to make a statue of the emperor's queen, until finally he got the unfortunate fate of the king's suspicion, thus punished by a kite. it just happens to be the only one who is very skilled at carving. The man is Joko Sungging.

Based on the recognition of Joko Sungging, the Patih became joy. Invite Joko Sungging to the king. Arriving before the king, he was asked to make the statue of the empress. Joko Sungging said goodbye to go looking for wood to the forest. His departure was followed by the patih. Arriving in the middle of the forest, he found a strange wood, and lured himself to stop. The wood was urinated. When urinated, Joko Sungging's genitals stood upright. Even more bizarre, the wood that is urinated it actually issued a very fragrant smell, so that by Joko Sungging, wood is called sandalwood. From this wood also the statue of the king's queen made.

After a few days the statue is made, stay the part of the vital tool that has not been done. At that time, there were flies flying, so he tried to slap her. Not unexpectedly, the fly was just settled on the pubic part of the statue he was making ?. Joko Sungging thought, "Maybe ... the king's wife does have a mole in the same place".

From that hunch, Joko Sungging reassured himself. Makes a mole on the center of the vital tool of the king's wife's sculpture.

When the statue is finished, Joko Sungging is shown to the king. Delivering his work. Initially, the king was very surprised, "why is it so exactly the original form?". But after observing in the middle, and found there was a mole, the king began to suspect, and began to accuse his wife of a single flavor (genital relationship) with Joko Sungging. To prove the suspicion, the king, once again, asked Joko Sungging: "What else do you know about my consort?".

"If given" eat "two or three times a day, still feel less ...", he replied.

Hearing the answer, the king became enraged. It was said that his patih bind Joko Sungging's body to be imprisoned without being fed.

After Joko Sungging entered the prison, the king's queen was punished by being told to go down to the rice fields to grow rice. When the rice is already fruitful, he is told to feed Joko Sungging.

Some time later, Joko Sungging asked himself to be hanged. This proposal is responded by the king, namely Joko Sungging flown on the kite and included all the carving equipment he has. After being flown over the kite, the rope was decided.

Joko Sungging was carried away with a strong wind. Just above the Gelagah tree, the kite string was stretched and Joko Sungging was startled, his tool was falling in the area now called Jepara. In the shock he said: "No wariske son of my son supoyo can digawe nyaw but gawe ing dina mburine" (I inherit the falling equipment to all my grandchildren so that in the days ahead it can be used as work performance).

Such is the legend of the Origin of carving art that developed in Jepara, so it is not necessary to debate the problem of how and where. Our country is rich in art, culture and community stories.Source : ingngarso.wordpress.com
