In the 6th century manuscripts, Hippocrates' recipes

in #history7 years ago

Workers of the library of the monastery of St. Catherine on Mount Sinai found a manuscript of the 6th century AD, which contains recipes for the "father of medicine," the Greek physician Hippocrates.

The manuscript was discovered during the restoration work. It turned out that the historical document contained medical prescriptions of Hippocrates and an unknown author, as well as drawings of medicinal herbs. According to the researchers, the artifact refers to "palmezitam" - the type of manuscripts written on two layers of skin.

The text of the recipes was printed over the erased inscriptions on the first layer of skin. This was done because of the very high cost of this material in those days.

The second layer of "palmesite" contains the "Sinaitic manuscript", which includes the incomplete text of the Old Testament and the almost complete text of the New Testament.
