A Piece of History of The Independence From The Land of Raflesia

Bengkulen or commonly referred to as Bengkulu is an area in parts of the archipelago within the scope of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), which was once a remote area of the territory of British Colonialism which was exchanged by Netherland with a small island of Singapore in the expanse of the Straits of Melaka.

In Bengkulu, Netherlands alienate Ir. H. Soekarno first President of Indonesia in 1938 until 1942. Sequestration against Soekarno conducted by Dutch Colonial, aims to break and at the same time breaking the chain and deadly struggle in establishing the Homeland. But the Dutch Colonial desires to turn off the struggle by Soekarno to liberate the Homeland is just an empty hope. While in exile, did not dampen the spirit to fight for Indonesian independence.

From the land of Raflesia, the spirit of the struggle by Soekarno to liberate Indonesia, increasingly booming all across the nation. And that spirit can not be contained by anyone, then on August 17, 1945 Sukarno and Muhammad Hatta proclaim the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

And in this land of Raflesia anyway, Soekarno met a gentle woman named Fatmawati. This country girl of Raflesia many inspired, pioneering spirit of struggle by Soekarno for independence in Indonesia. And from the hand gently tapering it was also the Red and White flag created. With the sewing machine away from modernization, Fatmawati combine pieces of red and white fabrics, and now to be the flag of the Republic of Indonesia.

Bitter tale of bitter struggle and life as lived by Sukarno in exile in the land of Raflesia, now leaves some memories, and the memories are carved in a house on stilts located at Soekarno-Hatta street, Anggut Village on Bengkulu City.  The house seemed still beautiful, according to a guard every day visited more than a hundred people who came to see a piece of the history about this Republic.

The house where the exiled Sukarno, looked well maintained neat when compared with home residence Fatmawati, Soekarno's wife. Inside the house, there are several historical objects, which was once used by Soekarno during his exile. In one of the rooms at the front of the house still looks a desk with a bench and a bookcase filled with books belonging to Sukarno during the exile. According to the guard, that's room was used by Soekarno as the proclaimer room to place it to read a book in the next day spent in exile.

Then in the middle of the room there is a pair of chairs made from rattan knitted, where soekarno receive his guests who come to visit the place of exile. Buya Hamka a writer and a great scholar of Indonesia once the chair together with Sukarno when he visited the home Soekarno exile. The information can be read from a black and white photo with a size that proves the existence of the meeting. Photo was displayed on the walls of the middle room in this house.

In the back room there are two rooms complete with a bed. While in the back room there is a desk with chair made of wood. According to the guard, this room is often used by Soekarno as a small meeting room where the meeting with the Indonesian freedom fighters prominent figures who came dwindled him.
