What is the right of veto ?

in #history6 years ago

Hello and welcome back my Steemian friends !

What is the right of veto :

The veto means an objection to any decision submitted to the Security Council without giving reasons. This right is granted to the five permanent members of the Council: the United Kingdom, Russia, China, France and the United States .

word "veto" in the United Nations law is the term "right of objection", which is in fact a right to stress the decision and not merely to object to it. It is enough to oppose any of the five permanent members of the Security Council so as not to pass the resolution and reject it completely. Even if it is acceptable to the other 14 States .

This system was adopted in the Security Council to encourage some States to participate in the United Nations after the Second World War, after it became clear to them that they could lose some privileges if they participated in an organization that respected democracy .

In recent years, there have been a number of voices calling for the expansion of the Security Council and the amendment of the UN system, with the addition of other proposed countries such as Japan, Germany and Brazil, and other voices proposed a vote for Africa and South America, which in any case calls for expansion without prejudice to the principle veto .
