What was the cause of war between Ethiopia and Italy?

Emperor Menelik II, who was ruling Ethiopia, signed the treaty of Wichale, to give some land to Italian in Northern and adjacent highlands of Ethiopia but the Italian attempted to trick Emperor Menelik by giving two different versions of treaty; one in Italian and the other in Amharic; where Article 17 of the treaty presents differently in each versions.

Later on, when Emperor Menelik II learned that the Italian had deceived, he rejected that treaty and decided directly to confront the Italian. As the result modern Italian army which was led by General Baratieri fought the Ethiopians. At the end of the day, the Italian invader was defeated by Ethiopian on March 1, 1888 in the battle of Adwa.

This is a Great Victory not only for Ethiopians but also for Africans at large. March 1, is a Notional Victory Day in Ethiopia; colorfully being celebrated annually.
