History Rohtas Fort (Qila Rohtas) is a historical garrison fort located near the city of Jhelum in Punjab, Pakistan.
It was built by “Raja Todar Mal”, by the orders of the Afghan King “Sher Shah Suri,” to control the Rebellious Tribes of the Northern Punjab Region, in Sixteen Century.
This castle is about 4 km in boundary. The Rohtas castle was built to defeat the local tribes of Potohar, who rebelled against the “Sur Dynasty” after the Mughal Emperor “Humayun” was ousted by the former.
It took 8 Years to build the castle, it was captured by Mughal Emperor “Humayun” in 1555.
Rohtas was also infrequently used for secretarial purposes by the Sikh Ruler “Ranjit Singh” after he captured it in 1825.
