HOME GROWN BEATS! PT. 1

in #hiphop7 years ago

with this beat im starting with the melody. i found a pad sound i really liked to layer in the back ground setting a darker mood. after finding this sound i set the bpm i tried 125 first but it felt just a bit to fast so i took it down to 122.

i would give a reference key and scale to what this fallows next but i honestly have no idea. i just put it down as i went. the melody started out as a simple 6 not melody but i wanted something more complex. it started as this.

this shaped in to a melody with a few short lived chords layered in to the melody to add a more dramatic feel. this shaping in to something that looks a little jumbled and the sound has no correlation to what it being played looks like .
the midi came out more like this once it began shaping.

but even with some added features to the melody i found it seemed empty sounding so i had the idea to take what i already had and layer if over the original in the 6th octave. forming something that sound a little more wholesome. allowing it to take up a bit more high end sound that im not going to use with the exception of a hi-hat later.

next i began shaping the sound with effector. adding the lo-fi affect to give it an older grainier sound.not using to much of the effect so it didn't have a mass amount of whit noise in the track off the melody.

i added one more effect to the file which was effectors grain filter. this gave it the missing grit to the sound i wanted.

i then added the v driver preset off of fruity compressor to get the sound of the pad out there in the beat so it could set the feel of the beat. after this i took both files and rendered the as audio files to save on space and processing power. along with just keeping the file cleaner and more organized.

next it was time to find drums a punch flat kick something with a good feel in the rhythm. and a snare to drive the kick with a clap to ad some punch to the snare. and i hi-hat for well hi-hat things. but no seriously a hi-hat to give the beat a groove.

now as of this point i have already started the mastering process taking out the lows in the hi-hats. was where i started and i boosted the lows from the kicks while taking out the highs in them. next i started boosting the mid-rang frequency on the snares and a few lows to get the punch of it there with out turning it in to a weird kick.
along with rough arrangement. now i would explain the process to arrangement but that really depends on the person and is just putting the peaces you have mad together like a puzzle to find what your ear enjoys.
now that i have a basic idea of my structure i begin to add hi-hat roles to the areas where they sound pleasing.

and now this last bit is just some affect's on the master track and the adding of some percussive sounds to keep the track interesting.and i final mix of the track with the exception of the piano lead melody the track was pret even to start but the rest was all but perfect. and to give a immersive feel i panned the lead and the backing melody 25 percent to each direction.

so without further ado here is the final beat:

hope you guys enjoyed this post. have a good day steemians!
