Hiking Suikerboschfontein - Part 3 - scenic sandstones
The scenery after the long drive changes drastically.
The mostly flat Karoo geology gives way to the more ancient tilted strata that form the escarpment in this area.
On arrival the most impressive features are the highly weathered sandstones (altered to quartzites) of the Magaliesburg Quartzites. These same quartzites form impressive ranges all around the perimeter of the bush veld basin.
These deeply weathered rocks form a labyrinth between the 3-4 meter (10-14 ft) high remaining columns

One can barely see the ladies washroom nestled between the immovable columns.
The three sleeper bungalow and a good view of the indigenous aloe and other wild shrubbery.
The three, six sleeper bungalows beautifully built with natural stone cladding and rounded roofs made of water reservoir zinc sheets.
Whoever decided to place a hiking night sleep over spot here was insightful and the way it was laid out was brilliant.
It totally blends in with the surroundings and enhances the ambiance of the outdoors experiance.

This is super cool and it reminds me of the formations in Madagascar where there's tones of very sharp rock formations creating magnificent and mind-boggling giant labyrinths. Thanks for sharing. Namaste :)

Don't people get lost between those rocks?
The paths are well marked and to stick to the paths is best.... but having said that, it's not a massively large area... It just forms a long strip at the top of the cliffs.
That is some really beautiful and unique scenery!
It's just a real pity I left the Nikon at home so had to use a teeny-weeny cell phone camera...
