My California - The Cajon Pass
For this weeks Show Us Your California contest by @socalsteemit I go check out the interesting sandstone rock formations and blooming wildflowers in...
the Cajon Pass!!
The Cajon Pass is where the San Andreas fault crosses the transverse ranges and divides the San Gabriel mountains and the San Bernardino mountains. The Mojave freeway, highway 138, the Pacific Crest Trail, and a BNSF railway run through the pass. And there are many interesting things to see in the area such as Lost lake, Cajon creek, the Mormon rocks, historic Route 66, Coyote creek, Lone Pine canyon, and more!
The Cajon Pass
On this trip to the Cajon pass we took a short hike along the Pacific Crest Trail to check out the blooming wildflowers and the neat sandstone rock formations. We started by the McDonalds, then crossed underneath the freeway, crossed Cajon creek, and started climbing up the trail. Before long we arrived at some of the rock formations. We wandered around the area checking out the wildflowers and climbing around on the rocks. We got up on one of the rocks and it had a really nice view over the area so we took a little break there and relaxed for awhile just enjoying being out on such a nice day!

After exploring all around the many rock formations we got back on the trail and hiked back down to the trailhead by the McDonalds and then headed home. It was a fairly short hike, but it was lots of fun. And the weather was perfect for a hike!
I hope you have enjoyed this weeks glimpse into My California!

Really cool. To me, the Cajon Pass has been something to drive through, enjoying the scenery for sure, but just keep driving. After seeing this, I might have to stop and stretch my legs.
That's how it is for 99% of the people that drive through there. It's just a little window scenery on the way to Vegas. lol. But it's actually a pretty neat area. Hiking, fishing, 4x4, gold prospecting, rock climbing, fossil collecting. There's lots of fun stuff to do up there. My uncle actually discovered a dolphin skeleton not far from where I was here on this hike and they have it at the LA museum now!!
That’s an amazing story! We do need to go gold prospecting this Spring or Summer.
Ya, I wanna do that in the next month or 2. What days of the week are usually best for you?
Saturday & Sunday.
Ok. I'm thinking June 1st or 2nd.
Keep us posted.
Those are lovely views, especially the wild flowers are just beautiful!
Thanks @roselifecoach! We got a lot of rain here in California this winter and now that spring is here the wildflowers blooming like crazy!
That's so great!!
Yessss you’re back, and loved the dog of steemit on the watch rock
I'm back at the moment. lol. One of my jobs is working at the local baseball stadium and the ball season just started last week so I got really busy dealing with that. Now I'm getting ready to leave on a snowboarding trip. But I should still have some time for internet while I'm up there. I really liked the shot of Pup too... it's like he's watching to make sure no coyotes or mountain lions sneak up on us while we had lunch. lol.
Have a safe trip
It looks, big...
That it is. lol.
Wonderful landscape. The rock formations I love the most. And you took some wonderful picture of the wild flowers.
Thanks @ikarus56! The rock formations here are really cool. They are formed by the uplifting and erosion that is caused by being on the fault line. There are 2 other locations here in SoCal with very similar formations. The Vasquez rocks, and the Devils Punchbowl. They all sit on fault lines.
Amazing ! The first photo already knocked my socks off and then the post kept going being awesomer and awesomer * ___ * The sandstones are so peculiar and cool and I love those flower shots too <3 That photo of the pup overlooking things is so epic, btw.... I can see it as a cover art to a story about a dog and its adventures, totally :D
And I love that shot with the train coming over the railways, the long shadows are very romantic * ___ *
Wonderful post, @derekrichardson! I love it \o/ !!!
Thank you @veryspider! 'Pup the adventure dog - part 1' coming soon... lol!
