Steps to take to choose the right course that pays well to study in Higher Institution

in #higher5 years ago

I was recently reading the news on Yahoo and stumbled on an article that discusses research conducted by the BBC.

The research details how those who read medicine or dentistry can earn around £47,000 within five years of leaving university, while other degrees can bring in half of that

The above excerpt has shown that the course you study can determine your earning power, and also, the subject you choose at university can advance or limit the career paths you can go into later.

Students from high school must be well informed about the prospect of the subject they choose before going ahead to earn a degree in it.

In this piece, I will be discussing the steps you can take to choose a good-paying course

  • Know the top list of courses with high employability rate and pay in your country

In this age, information is vital. Richard Paul Evans made an interesting statement, which is very important for this discussion.

He said, What a culture we live in, we are swimming in an ocean of information, and drowning in ignorance.

The above quote clearly stated that we are surrounded by information; however, what we make out of it is our collective responsibility. What it means is that you have to get information about the most lucrative courses in your country. And this is your first step in preparing yourself for a successful career.

  • Be passionate about the course

Oprah Winfrey said Passion is energy, and it is the feeling of the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” Steve Jobs also went ahead to say, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” You shouldn’t only choose a course because of its career prospects, and the subject must be the one that you love to do. It is the love that you have for the course that will keep you going when the journey is getting tight. You may not have enough energy to weather the storm when you are passing through the rigors of the course if you love the subject passionately.

  • Know what it takes to secure admission for the said course

It isn’t enough to know the most lucrative courses; you must also know what is required of you to secure admission to earn a degree in the subject. For instance, if you want to study Medicine and Surgery, then you must have at least AAA in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in CIE A levels. This example is for countries where their higher institutions accept Cambridge A levels. Making the required grade doesn’t come by wishful thinking; it comes from hard and smart work.

  • Make a good GPA in the subject

Most establishments only go for outstanding graduates. You can’t have a good-paying job if you graduated with a GPA of 1.0. Your final grade goes a long way in determining the kind of job you might be offered. So do everything within your power to be the best in can be in that field of study.

In conclusion, students shouldn’t just pick any course without getting full information about their career prospects. Life only answers to those that are informed and work intelligently to achieve their dream.
