Many Mistakes Mages Make: Cutting Old Ties

When learning about new skills, it's important to remember to practice them. It's also important to be aware of the consequences of those skills. Sometimes, we learn things that other people don't particularly like; it challenges their values and value systems. One of the major obstacles we've noticed in ours and other people's growth is an unwillingness to face their own selves, their own darknesses... and their own lights. There is a balance in having and using both kinds of skills, and they all have different applications.

When it comes to Juju skills, this is much the same problem. When we run from our abilities, be they mundane or magic(k)al, we're running from parts of us that make us who we are. These things are available to us for a reason, and when we refuse to use them, we change and decay. A lot of people don't like growth of a total package; they don't see it as "whole" or "complete," but death in the long run doesn't seem like a particularly good option, either.

What's left is to cut ties and to move on. We need our compassion and friends for comfort, but it is easy to tip the balance too far in that direction too. When people don't understand what we need to grow, they can't, and won't be a part of that.

It's sad, but we do have an insatiable desire to learn. Where one door closes, however, there is room for another to open.

Let's see what's through the next one, yeah?
