That’s more than Oscar Schindler managed with 1,200.

You can always act when you see injustice even if it is only a small act...

This Catholic Polish Social Worker, Irena Sendlerowa was assigned to the Warsaw Ghetto to oversee hygiene issues and took it upon herself to smuggle out Jewish children in suitcases, medical bags, ambulances and carts. She managed to save 2,500 lives before someone reported her to the Gestapo. She was tortured by them but refused to give up the names of her colleagues that were working with her on this mission.

She was nominated for a Noble Peace Prize by Pope John Paul II, and the Polish and Israeli governments in 2007 but Al Gore got it for Climate Change.

Excellent reminder of human bravery. Had she been caught she would have ended up at a death camp like ten million other Catholics and ten million other Poles

Yes, and not enough are remembered who were brave...

In my heart, Irena Sendler will always remain one of the greatest heroes and one of the greatest examples of humanity during war times. What I am really sorry about is the despicable way she was treated by communist authorities after 1967, when she was fired from her job and had to suffer persecution for having stood up for the Jews against left-wing fascists..She was wonderfully portrayed by Anna Paquin in "The courageous heart of Irene Sendler" a few years ago (the movie ends with an interview to the real Irene Sendler who died a few years ago but was still alive when the movie was made).
