The fact that the world drives on petro fuel is not accidental. This came about through corporate lobbying to create a monopoly for the petro chemical industry and the automotive manufacturers went along with it. It would be hard to throw off the shackles of an infrastructure and manufacturing base that is so financially invested in the extraction, transport, refining and use of it. The time has come for the introduction of alternatives that are effectively competitive, cleaner burning and economically efficient.

Corn ethanol has already been implemented on a commercial scale by some of the major oil companies, but it lacks the efficiency as a crop to bring down the prices. Acreage yields, time to maturation and occupying fertile soil makes it not viable when compared to one other crop.

Hemp can produce per acre, 4x more fuel than Maize and 5x more fuel than Corn!

*Hemp can be grown anywhere in the continental U.S.
*It can be grown in marginal soil. In more temperate regions, it can yield three harvests in a calendar year.
*A hemp crop will produce 1,000 gallons of methanol per acre.
*There are an estimated to 500 million acres of marginal land left fallow each year.
*It is estimated that if only 6% of the land mass in the continental U.S. were planted with hemp for fuel, the country would be energy self sufficient.

Henry Ford was certain that bio fuel would be the choice of energy in the 20's. One of his first model t's had a motor designed for bio-diesel. That vision from over 100 years ago needs to find a resurgence in the modern world. If for no other reason to switch the worlds consumption, bio fuel creates 75% less emissions and would $.50 cents/gallon before taxes. And, by the way, with slight modifications, you could run your current car on it.

Think about how much cleaner that crane would run.

I think hemp is great! India needs to legalize it so we can do more for the country.

The fact that hemp is illegal in both India and the US, really proves out what a useful plant it really is. Hemp will destroy mature industries around the world.

Yes! Marijuana was banned thanks to US in India. Hemp is legal in only one state. I almost considered hemp cultivation with a childhood friend but there was no way for us to bypass the state's laws which makes no distinction between hemp and marijuana. It's a real pity considering its uses, especially in India!

Can't go upsetting those oil cartels now can we?

On a positive there are area few states in the US passing laws to allow the production of industrial hemp.
How very nice of our overlords to ball us to grow a plant that would exist even if we didnt!

They refer to it as ditchweed in parts of the west. Can't get rid of it. It wants to grow. They could get two full crops in North Dakota and Montana. So much of their land sits fallow.

Hemp isn't a great material for so many different things. That's must be the reason it's maligned by the US government.
