Payouts are automatic. Half goes into your steem power in your wallet, and half goes into steem dollars in your wallet. If you want to convert steem dollars to steem in order to 'power up' into steem power, you can do so, but the conversion from steem dollars to steem takes one week and uses the average conversion rate over the previous week.
