If you have $8, a part of them let's say $1 will go to curators( the people who upvoted your post) and the remaining of $7 will split into 3 parts. Steem dollars, steem and steem power! I don't know the exact percent of the split.
Edited: if you go to the reward section near replies and click on it, you will see two options: author reward and curation reward. Click on author reward and you will see​ how your money was split after the payout!
