Steemit Functions : Wallet & Profile Settings !

Wallet & Profile Settings / Links

Some of this content is self explanatory but we are going to go over it anyways. I won't be going into great detail of each setting. The goal of this post is to give you a general Idea or at least a better Idea on how some of these settings work.

Trending / Hot / New / Promoted are all at the top of our Steemit page. As the names suggest, once you click on one it will show the blogs on Steemit in that category. For example click new to view the new post recently created on Steemit, click Trending to visit the most popular content and so on.

Under those options at the very least we have our Steemit name / Number of followers / number of Steemians we follow / number of post and join date. More can be added to this section. We will go over what and how later in this topic.

Next we have some more easy to use features which include Blog ( click on to visit your own blogs / posts ) / Comments ( click on to visit your own comments ) / Replies ( Click to see the replies of those who commented on your content ) and Rewards.

Rewards has two features once clicked. Curation Rewards and Author Rewards. Click Curation Rewards and it will show what you have earned via curation ( upvoting others content ). Click on Author Rewards to see what you have earned from your content you created on Steemit. This feature is great to see how much you earned from each specific post you created as this sections provides a list of your articles / post and how much each earned in rewards.

Wallet

Next we have Wallet which if clicked takes us to our wallet. This is where things may start to get overwhelming. For this article we will focus on the Balance section of our wallet. The features that can be found in the balance section and a brief explanation of each can be found below.

Steem

Steem is a tradeable token that may be transferred anywhere at anytime. Steem can be converted to STEEM POWER in a process called powering up. You can buy sell or send Steem to market. You can also send to another Steemian or use Steem to power up. Which means you can use Steem to increase the value of your vote by turning steem into Steem Power. You can transfer your steem to your savings section of your wallet as well.

Steem Power

Steem Power are influence tokens which give you more control over post payouts and allow you to earn on curation rewards. Having high Steem Power benefits you in many ways. You will earn more curation rewards for post you upvote due to the fact that higher value upvotes earn more curation rewards from posts. The more Steem Power you have the higher the value your vote will be worth. If you want to cash out your Steem Power you will need to " Power Down " to do so.

You get to borrow some Steem Power when you are a newbie ( usually 15 ). As you grow your account and start earning your own Steem Power you will have to give back what you borrowed. So as a newbie you may see 1 ( 14 ) for a total of 15 steem in your account. This means you have earned 1 Steem Power and still have 14 borrowed. As you earn more Steem Power the number outside the bracket increases and the number inside the bracket decreases.

Steem Dollars or SBD

Steem Dollars or SBD is another currency on the Steemit platform. You can sell / buy / transfer to another Steemian or send this to market. You can not power up with it. You can however sell / trade it for Steem in which you can then use the Steem to " power up " / increase your voting value.

Savings & Estimate Account Value

You can transfer your Steem or SBD to your savings. All Steem and SBD transferred to savings are subject to a 3 day withdraw waiting period. Under that is your Estimate Account Value which shows the total estimated value of your account in USD. The total value of your account shown is not 100 % correct as the estimate is based on an average price of steem instead of the current days actual value of Steem.

Under all that we have our history in which we can see all the transactions in and out of our wallet.

Profile Settings

Next to the wallet link on our main page we have a Settings link. This is where we can modify our main page with profile pictures and a cover image. Using these features are relatively easy. You just need to post the url of the profile picture / cover image you would like to use in the profile / cover image section. You can also change your display name and add your location / webpage to your profile so any user that visits your blog will see this information.

There are also some settings in this section that you may find useful such as being able to hide NSFW ( Not Safe For Work ) content and change how you want to receive your post payout rewards. The default rewards setting is 50 % Steem Power / 50 % SBD. You can change this to be rewarded in 100 % Steem Power if you want. You will also be able to see those who you muted.

Hopefully the above gave you a better Idea on how some of these functions work. I am sure you are left with more questions and feel free to ask away in the comment section and I will do my best to answer them. Some of the above functions can and should have an article dedicated to it specifically but for this article I wanted to include as much as I could giving a brief explanation of each function.

Do you have a smartphone? If so you could have done screenshots.

That would of been a good Idea and would have made my post look a little more cleaner.

I will keep it in mind if I do a similar post in the future.

The promoted tab is one of the most underutilized features on Steemit. Its true that not many go there but some do click that tab. New users navigating the site for the first time certainly do.

Thanks ... I hope they do to.

Another very helpful post. You should start building a library of these posts or at least links to them as you build on them (thats a @rentmoney tip haha)

Thats a good Idea and I have thought about it. At some point I plan on doing a Tips article that combines all my post from my secret and tips series.

For me, wallet was the most difficult to understand :)

It was / is for me also. Steemit needs to simplify the wallet.

thanks for useful information

Really useful stuff @rentmoney

I have noticed that we can directly upload our profile pics now as well. Handy for those of us with no pic hosting experience. It can be a tad confusing.

As always, thanks for posting.
