RE: Steemit 'Flag' button why it's not needed - Advice based on my extensive study of 'Social Media' information flow.

in #help8 years ago

I used to think the same way when I first came here. The flag button is necessary though. It is the only method to fight spam, identity theft, plagiarism and other abuse. Unfortunately it itself can also be abused.

Sort:

with all due respect that was the primary reason all VPN spammers used to advocate for info suppression.

why can't i just mute spam? - trust me as steemit grows in popularity every attack will be leveled against it.
this site will be spammed from every angle the AIM will be to try to get the consensus of people to put in place MORE information control vectors.

i know all the responses - the common one will be 'but the spam will be the only thing promoted and seen on the 'front' page' by new users (because everyone else will just mute it)

OK well that is a 'design problem' if you can't account for the fact that the site WILL be attacked with spam if you can't allow for that without suppressing other users then your site has a design problem.

A suggested solution is to organize the data that is seen by new users but STILL have a 'new' or 'Raw' feed this is the full frontal that allows the new users to sift though all the content and filter it as they want to.

Again, I don't think it is spam so much as it is plagiarism. Do you feel that stealing someones work and presenting it as your own original content should be rewarded here?

Yes of course on Twitter that's called a 'retweet' button the token 'reward' is irrelevant.
So yes I'm saying the market will work it out.
The 'plagiarism' vector is the legal framework in which the 'authorities' will try to use to censor or take down the site. Just like torrent sites.
How stupid do you think we are?

When you retweet something it shows the original source....
