How to shrink pictures in Steemit (updated)
One of my most popular posts on Steemit has been one on how to shrink images. After many months it still gets views and comments. I thought I would do an update of it as the url that Steemit uses for images has changed (although the concept remains the same).
Suppose I found a nice picture like the one below (source URL at the bottom of the post) but it was a bit big. When I paste it into Steemit I will get some code that looks like the code below (incidentally, to show a piece of code you put back ticks ` around it).
To shrink the image I take the first part of the URL and repaste it on the front, but with slashes and the approximate dimensions you want in between. From what I can tell Steemit will keep the aspect ratio and just work with the smaller of the two (so in my case if 550x400 wasn't the correct ratio it will work with the shorter of the two relative to the original image and scale from there). You need to give two numbers with an x in between.
The only issue I have run in to is that Discord doesn't seem to like displaying shrunken images when you copy a Steemit link so you end up with this guy instead:
