Actually, feminine hypergamy is rooted in most of nature. Females of most species control mate selection and use that to select the male traits that they want: Utility, Provision, Protection.

Patriarchy is a myth. If we do have it, they are not doing it right at all. We never had a society that benefited men's interests. We had a society that made men responsible for women's needs and gave men the legal preference on how to decide the way it is accomplished.

Today women choose how men provision for their needs: more and more this is through government programs vis-a-vis cross subsidized taxation schemes..backed my the force of government to criminalize of men.

It is not the most complicated ideas that are best...it is the ones that have the most explanatory value.
