karadeniz bölgesinde yer alan , çok eski bir yerleşim yeri olması nedeniyle buram buram tarih kokan güzel bir ilimizdir. osmanlı döneminde şehzadelerin yetiştirilmek üzere gönderilmesiyle “şehzadeler şehri” olarak anılmaktadır . il merkezinden yeşilırmak geçmektedir ayrıca hemen merkezde bulunan yüksek kayalıklarda bulunan “kral kaya mezarlıkları” çok sayıda turist çekmektedir . kayalıklar, ırmak ve eski amasya evleri ile eşsiz bir manzaraya sahiptir . ayrıca ferhat ile şirin aşkının geçtiği büyülü şehirdir amasya .
