bayanihan
Bayanihan is a Filipino tradition referring to a communal effort to achieve a common goal.
During the old Filipino days when Filipinos still live in Nipa hut, Bayanihan sprung. At those days, the nipa huts are designed in a way that it can be transferred from one location to another. Transferring of Nipa Hut is done through a spirit of volunteerism from the people of the community. They carry the house in their shoulders but putting a framework of bamboos underneath the house to stronghold and support the weight of it. Once the house is transferred, the host will then serve a feast for the volunteers as a sign of gratitude for them.
Bayanihan is still present in provinces where houses are still in a manner that it can be transferred. In the course of time, the term Bayanihan has evolved into symbolical meaning aside from carrying a house. Bayanihan is now also used if a community wants to achieve a common goal. For example, the community wants to have an outdoor basketball court. People can share their talent, time and treasure in achieving so. All is given as a volunteer without expecting anything in return since anyway it is for the benefit of everyone.

Bayanihan can be seen anywhere. It is now in different forms. For as long as there is a communal unity, Bayanihan will be there. Thus, if you want to achieve something for a community benefit, ask everyone to commit to a Bayanihan. You will see, even those who are quiet and aloof members of the community will come and join everyone for a common cause
