Who is the Mysterious Melhizadek ?

Hebrews 7: Melchizedek the Priest

"This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “King of Righteousness”; then also, “King of Salem” means “King of Peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever."

Gen 14:18 And Malchizedek the king of Salem brought out bread and wine, and he was a priest to the Most High God. יחוּמַלְכִּי־צֶ֨דֶק֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ שָׁלֵ֔ם הוֹצִ֖יא לֶ֣חֶם וָיָ֑יִן וְה֥וּא כֹהֵ֖ן לְאֵ֣ל עֶלְיֽוֹן:

Melchizedek, Melkisetek, or Malki - Tzedek Hebrew: מַלְכִּי־צֶדֶֿק‬ malkī-ṣeḏeq, "King of Righteousness"; , was the king of Salem and priest of El Elyon ("God Most High") mentioned in the 14th chapter of the Book of Genesis. He brings out bread and wine and blesses Abram and El Elyon.

Chazalic literature – specifically Targum Jonathan, Targum Yerushalmi, and the Babylonian Talmud – presents the name (מלכי־צדק) as a nickname title for Shem, the son of Noah.

In Christianity, according to the Epistle to the Hebrews, Jesus Christ is identified as "a Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek", and so Jesus assumes the role of High Priest once and for all.

Reference between the Messiah and Melchizedek appears in subsequent biblical verses: Genesis 14:18-20; I Samuel 13 Psalm 110:1-10 Matthew 22:44; 26:26-28 Luke 22:19; Mark 14:22 John 6:53 Acts 2:34 I Corinthians 11:23-25 Hebrews 4:14-15; 5:6; 5:10; 6:19-20; 7:1-21. Revelation 1:6.

Tzadik/Zadik/Sadiq [tsaˈdik] (Hebrew: צדיק‎, "Righteous one", pl. tzadikim [tsadiˈkim] צדיקים ṣadiqim) is a title given to people considered Righteous, such as Biblical figures and later Spiritual Masters. The root of the word ṣadiq, is ṣ-d-q (צדק tzedek), which means "Justice" or "Righteousness".

Tzadik is also the root of the word tzedakah ('charity', literally 'righteousness'). The term tzadik "Righteous", and its associated meanings, developed in Rabbinic thought from its Talmudic contrast with hasid ("Pious" Honorific), to its exploration in Ethical literature, and its esoteric spiritualisation in Kabbalah.

Since the late 17th century, in Hasidic Judaism, the institution of the Mystical Tzadik as a divine channel assumed central importance, combining popularization of (hands-on) Jewish mysticism with social movement for the first time. Adapting former Kabbalistic theosophical terminology, Hasidic thought internalised mystical experience, emphasising deveikut attachment to its Rebbe leadership, who embody and channel the Divine flow of blessing to the world ....

Interesting etymology on the name Melchizedek! I knew about the King of Salem/Peace, but I hadn't heard about Righteousness. Still, I find the person to be quite a mystery. I'm sure God didn't reveal too much about him for a good reason

Yes .... Melchi means King and Zadok means Righteous. One of the 3 Wise Men was called Melchi-or - So King of Light .... probably where the idea that they were kings comes from.

Melchi-or (King of Light) , מלך האור was purportedly one of the Biblical Magi along with Caspar and Balthazar who visited the infant Jesus after he was born. Melchi-or was often referred to as the oldest member of the Magi. He was traditionally called the King of Persia and brought the gift of Gold to Jesus. In the Western Christian church, he is regarded as a saint (as are the other two Magi).

I enjoyed this post, Offgridlife, especially where you wrote that "Jesus assumes the role of high priest once and for all." Good historical references and a great time to post this with Christmas just two days away. Upvoted!

Yes,... Jesus is the Righteous King of the Universe. The One and Only God Incarnate. It is a Great Mystery that few can comprehend but Jesus = God. The One spoken of in the Book of Daniel whom we are to Serve and Worship.
