One Secret of the Word Pesach פסח 🌀 (Passover)

in #hebrew6 years ago

One of the ways to find what information is hidden in a Hebrew word and learn more about its concept, is to "open up" its letters. English letters are named after the sound that they make, so the name of a letter, has only itself "inside" of itself. The letter A is named A because it sounds like A. But in Hebrew, each letter, like the letter Bet (ב), has a full name which includes at least 1 other sound, in this case, a T (ת) sound. So the letter Bet (ב) is spelled בת. (Hebrew is read from right to left.)

This coming Friday evening begins the holyday(s) of Pesach פסח, or Passover. Rabbi Glazerson did a Torah code about it and while explaining the code, made reference to a curious fact about the word Pesach. I don't think I had ever heard it before, so I checked it out to confirm and properly understand...

Let's open up the word Pesach פסח to look inside.

The letter that makes the P sound is called PeH (פ), and can be spelled as פה.

The letter that makes the S sound is called SaMeCh (ס), and can be spelled as סמך.

The letter that makes the Ch sound is called CheT (ח), and can be spelled as חת.

In addition to having a specific name, each Hebrew letter has a value.

The value of פ PeH is 80.

The value of ס SaMeCh is 60.

The value of ח CheT is 8.

Therefore the straight value of the word פסח is; 80 + 60 + 8 = 148.

But what is the value of the word when it's letters are spelled out, or opened up (to the first level) as was shown above?

Spelled out, פ PeH = פ80 + ה5 = 85

Spelled out, ס SaMeCh = ס60 + מ40 + ך20 = 120

Spelled out, ח CheT = ח8 + ת400 = 408

85 + 120 + 408 makes,

613!!

This "happens to be" the number of Mitzvot or "Commandments" given to the people of Yisrael! What therefore are the implications about the importance of Pesach פסח? Is there a message of some sort of Unity, or completeness of mitzvot through celebrating this One festival? B"H!

That's a very great explanation. I've started learning the Hebrew language and one thing that quite fascinating to me is the meanings of their consonants. It's an incredible language that I think every Christian should learn. Thanks for sharing @inphiknit

Thank you! I agree with your sentiments and trust that as the prophets imply, we will all one day know the Holy tongue!

A fascinating observation, and a good reminder. Thanks.
