Patrick-Deuel (Half Ton man)
KEARNEY — Patrick Darren Deuel, 54, of Kearney died Friday, April 29, 2016, at his home.
A celebration of Patrick’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of God, 4310 17th Ave. in Kearney with Pastor Charlie Gable officiating. Burial will be later in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Patrick Darren Deuel was born March 28, 1962, in Grand Island, the child of James W. and Betty Jean Otte. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Walnut Junior High. Patrick graduated in 1980 from Grand Island High School. He interests included music, reading and genealogy. During his high school years, he won numerous awards for music, honors from the Musicians Union of Nebraska and several scholarships. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Central Community College, University of Wyoming in Laramie and Hastings College. His interest in genealogy prompted him to take correspondence classes from Brigham Young University.
His greatest achievement was receiving the Eagle Scout Award with 3 Palms in 1976. Patrick spent many years in the food service field before becoming disabled.
He married Edith Kay Runyan on Sept. 23, 1995, at Hargis Mansion in Grand Island. The couple lived in Kearney, Alda, Valentine and Alliance before moving back to Kearney. They enjoyed visiting family, especially their grandchildren, and attending the annual Harvest of Harmony Parade in Grand Island.
He was gone before in death by his grandparents, James and Lydia Deuel and Lawrence and Elva Otte; his mother, Betty Deuel; and his mother-in-law, Charlotte Runyan.
He leaves to praise his home going his better half, Edith Deuel of Kearney; his father, James Deuel of Grand Island; his stepchildren, Charlotte Hrnchir of Trenton and LeRoy Clinger Jr. of Claremont, N.C.; five grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
