What does it mean to store up treasures in heaven and not on earth according to Matthew 6:19-20?

Jesus frequently compares the Kingdom of God with a treasure in his teachings: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.", Matthew 6:19-20.
Jesus is telling us to accumulate treasures in heaven and not on earth, that is, everything we do in this life is a preparation for the next: "Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.", 1 Timothy 4:7-8

To accumulate treasures on earth is to treasure all those goods that are the subject of dispute between men: money, power, sex, fame. Those who live according to the flesh dispute and wage war for these goods.
Living the spiritual gifts of God are the true treasure in heaven, the spiritual gifts are progressive, uplifting, expansive: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect", Matthew 5:48, "Be merciful as your Father is merciful", Luke 6:36, "Be holy because I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16. To live according to the spirit is to seek the correct and the best; the correct for the spiritual gift of counsel and the best for the mercy.
Jesus taught: "But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well", Luke 12:31. The kingdom of God is the source of true spiritual goods for human life, the kingdom of God is the dominion of God's perfections: the dominion of the piety, the reign of the wisdom, the empire of righteousness. Living spiritual gifts have a reward in this physical life and a reward in the future spiritual life. This is the true spiritual treasure of man.
