[Hearthstone] Wild resurrection priest deck

in #hearthstone7 years ago (edited)

This month I've decided to play wild and arena instead of standard and I've had a lot of fun and reasonable success with this deck. I'm by no means a serious Hearthstone player and this is more of a fun deck.

The core win condition with this deck revolves around Obsidian Statue.

A frustrating card to play against and can easily turn the tide in your favour. The idea of this deck is to summon this minion early with Shadow Essence and use the various spells to resurrect your Obsidian Statue. Early game is about stalling and surviving until you can get your minions on the board. Agro decks will often concede early when they see this minion on the board.

If you survive until turn 6 (or 5 with the coin) and get your statue out or Y'Shaarj which can summon a 4/8 statue in the same turn you will be in a strong position.

I've had success against all types of popular decks in wild (agro paladin/hunter/druid, big druid/priest, demo warlock and kingsbane rogue for some examples) however there are some decks in particular that can cause problems.

The main problem I've had is against super agro decks if you fall too low prior to being able get your minions out. If you get super unlucky (e.g. get both Obsidian Statues in your opening hand after mulligan) or just fail to get Shadow Essence you can go down quickly.

If you Shadow Essence and get Sylvanas or Kel'thuzad early this can also cause problems however given how powerful these minions are your opponent will normally need to clear these minions so it buys time and you can simply resurrect them when needed.

You want to hard mulligan for Shadow Essence and if you already have this in your starting hand it's good to keep a Lesser Diamond Spellstone handy as your spells will boost this up to be able to resurrect 4 minions. If you don't get Shadow Essence you can hang onto a Shadow Visions to fish for it on turn 2. If you have Shadow Essence I find keeping Kel'thuzad and/or Sylvanas in your hand is not a bad idea as this is not a card you want to summon with your Shadow Essence.

Originally I played a similar deck in standard with only the statue's as minions and you can do this however Kel'thuzad is extremely strong as well as Y'Shaarj. Sylvanas is situational - I'm currently using it but it can be problematic if you summon this instead of a statue after a slow start and you need to heal. It can also turn games by stealing a minion from your opponent. You can substitute this for another spell or stronger minion.

You can experiment with other minions such as The Lich King and Emperor Thaurissan which can be very strong.

If you would like to see an example of this deck vs a standard demo warlock you can check out a replay here https://hsreplay.net/replay/sEjKVwvzghwt6TxLF6sqcW

Just remember this is more of a fun deck and you won't win all the time. I'm sitting at 71% win rate on this current version which is great. If you can sit above 65% win rate you should climb reasonably quickly. If you have any suggestions on how to improve this deck please let me know.

Are you playing any fun decks at the moment? I'd love to see what unique decks are out there in the Steem It community :)
