TO BE LESS AWARE IS TO BE DEFENCELESS

in #healthiswealth6 years ago

In my last post, i remember mentioning i was in medical school, and my future posts would be health related...

Here is a tip of what i learnt today and felt i should share, ""IBC"", alot of us might be wandering what this means and might have probably encountered a case or more without the awareness of what was going on. Remember the quote "the less awareness you have, the more you become like others! Increase your awareness, then you will become more unique!

"Early detection" they say could save a life... Guess by now, you should be having a picture about my subject matter, follow me as i walk you through.

Unlike, the common diagnose we all know which is the presence of a lump in either of the breasts, Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC), is a rare, rapidly growing cancer that is characterized with redness, swelling and tenderness... It is very different in terms of it's symptoms, appearance and treatment from all other types of breast cancer. When the redness appears, alot of people might just think it probably is a reaction to a soap or something, some might even assume something bit them there. IBC symptoms are caused by cancer cells blocking lymph vessels in the skin.

Some symptoms that would tell you IBC is what you're dealing with;

  1. IBC doesn't look like a typical breast cancer. It often does not cause a breast lump, and it might not show up on a mammogram. This makes it harder to diagnose.
  2. IBC tends to occur in younger women (at an average age of 52 versus 57 for more common forms of breast cancer).
    African-American women appear to be at higher risk of IBC than white women.
  3. IBC is more common among women who are overweight or obese.
  4. IBC also tends to be more aggressive—it grows and spreads much more quickly—than more common types of breast cancer.
  5. IBC is always at a locally advanced stage when it’s first diagnosed because the breast cancer cells have grown into the skin. (This means it at least stage IIIB.)
    In about 1 of every 3 cases, IBC has already spread (metastasized) to distant parts of the body when it is diagnosed. This makes it harder to treat successfully.
