This is basically a cost-sharing program. Members pay a periodic fee based on different tiers. When they have a medical event, the other members' fees pay for part of the cost. If this sounds like health insurance, it basically is. Just a shitty version that doesn't have many of the safeguards of an ACA compliant health insurance plan and doesn't actually count as health insurance.

You may then ask how these programs are legal? Well, these Christian companies got Chuck Grassley to sneak an exemption for these programs into the ACA.

They basically are like a pre-ACA catastrophic health insurance plan with things that sound exactly like premiums and deductibles. And they have lifetime spending caps and discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions.

The board of directors decides what to cover, and pre-existing conditions are not covered if they are chronic and still in treatment.

What happens when you exceed the lifetime caps with something like cancer? They have a prayer wall where members can pray for you and donate money for your care.
