US Gunshot Victim Finally Meets, Thanks Medical Student Who Saved Him After 25 Years
After two and a half decades, 44-year-old old Damon Walker was finally able to meet and thank a medical student who saved his life Walker had been shot three times after a night out with friends and left to die until Michael Franks showed up and rushed him to the hospital It was an emotional reunion as the two reminisced the events of that night when their paths crossed.
Twenty-five years ago, a Maryland medical student got lost and took a wrong turn, unaware that fate was sending him towards an incident that would save a stranger's life. It was an emotional reunion as Franks and Walker met after 25 years.
As it happened, the then-18-year-old Michael Franks found himself in the centre of chaos and bumped into Baltimore resident Damon Walker who had been shot Walker was clinging to life and had begun embracing the imminent death when someone showed up out of the blues.
Walker added that he could not believe his eyes when a car stopped a few yards away and someone came over to help him, what he terms as "an angel." Franks, now a practising doctor, was still a medical student when the incident happened on the night of New Years Day 1996. Emotional reunion The pair reunited the November for the first time after 25 years in an emotional moment especially for Walker who has unending gratitude for Franks. Walker and his mother set out to look for Franks by searching online, after which they made a call to him and set up the reunion. The now-52-year-old medic who currently works as a urologist with Virginia Urology revealed that all these years he had never known how Walker was doing and if he had survived.
Franks said of their reunion. Forty-four-year-old Walker explained that the feeling was surreal but it not only offered him closure but also gave him the opportunity to express his utmost gratitude. Fateful night The two took a trip down memory lane to the fateful night that saw their paths cross in an unexpected manner. Walker, who was 18 years old at the time, was leaving a club with friends around 3 am after a New Year's party when a fight broke out between them and some men in a car outside the establishment. The young man was shot three times in the attack and left for dead, carrying bullet wounds on his thumb, chest, and abdomen.
When Walker tumbled to the ground, it dawned on him that he had been paralyzed, that is when he started praying for help and Franks appeared. Franks, who was a University of Maryland medical student at the time, disclosed that he saw Walker get shot and considered dialling 911 but realized there was not much time to wait for emergency responders. So he simply dashed over, put Walker in his car and rushed him to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, which was nearby.
