A FIT GIRL’S GUIDE TO A HEALTHY TUMMY

With the increase in genetic modification and exposure to toxins in our food, it seems that everyone has a stomach issue these days. Whether you are going too much/not enough/irregularly/basically never, tummy troubles can ruin the mood.

With evidence that our stomachs communicate/send messages to our brains instead of vice versa, it’s hard to feel like we are in control of the situation. We’ve put together a list of ways to put those tummy troubles to bed.

[WATER]

Water is the KEY to so many health issues, and digestion is no exception. However, we are here to tell you that its not just the amount of water you drink that matters…. The time of day you drink water is a major unlock!

Try chugging 30oz of water first thing in the morning when you wake up. This will not only give you a boost of energy, it will cause your stomach to clear out within about 30-45 mins! Just make sure you get your water ready the night before and chug it immediately when you wake up for best results.

[GIVE ME A BREAK]

Often, we are eating a meal or snack before allowing our body time to properly digest the meal prior. Imagine if your stomach was a paper shredder and you kept shoving in new paper to shred before it had finished the last round of shredding… you’re headed for a major jam! Try to pick a time of the day to “fast” [read: intermittent fasting] for a few hours, or set parameters at night/in the morning for stop + start times! An easy way to incorporate this tip is to finish your PM meals by 8 and wait 12 hrs until 8AM for breakie… giving yourself a full 12 hrs to digest and work through yesterdays business + waking up with the recommended 30oz of water will ensure your system is feeling clean, lean, and mean for the next day of healthy bites!

[MASSAGE ME WHERE?]

The benefits of massage are indisputable and have been utilized for health and wellness for thousands of years. An extremely underrated practice is self-massage! Massaging your stomach from the bottom right corner, up towards the rib cage then across from right to left and down the left side can aid in digestion and get things moving in the right direction 😉

[TEA TIME]

If you are having trouble inciting a BM, you may be considering taking a harsh OTC laxative supplement. Before running straight to the medicine closet for a pill… try drinking a cup of senna tea directly before bed to get things moving more naturally. However, do not utilize this everyday as it could lead to dependency!
