What to do if something gets into the eye

The eye is too gentle an organ to misuse it and rub it with a fist. A brush of mascara, a branch or a fingernail can injure the surface of the eye, and you will feel a burning sensation and discomfort, or you will not feel anything if the scratch is shallow. Therefore it is better to be safe and appear to a specialist. The doctor will write out drops or ointments that will not give rise to infection and form scars.
If the foreign body remains in the eye, do not rub your eyelids in any case. The object can scratch the mucous membrane and cause serious complications.
Do not work with eyes with unwashed hands. Do not wash the mucous membranes with dirty water. Do not use tweezers, toothpicks and any other hard objects: they can easily injure delicate tissues.
Do not attempt to remove an object that has injured the surface of the eye and is not washed off with water. In this situation, you need to see a doctor right away.
Do not rinse your eyes if you are in contact lenses. First of all, remove them.
What to do if the eye has got a chemically active substance?
Wash your hands thoroughly. Make sure that there are no traces of soap or any substance that has entered the eye.
Remove and discard the lens. The lens can absorb the substance and irritate the surface of the eye.
Flush eyes with water for 15-30 minutes. If discomfort remains, go to the doctor. Just in case, take with you a sample of the substance that got into your eye.
If the conjunctiva is glued, do not try to remove it yourself: this should only be done by an ophthalmologist. Rinse your eyes and go to him.
What to do if there is a foreign body in the eye
Wash your hands thoroughly. Examine the mucous eyes to find a foreign body.
Mild objects (cilia, hair, fragments of cosmetics) can be removed with a cotton swab dipped in water. If the hair is light and you can not find it, rinse the eye.

Sharp objects (shavings, glass, coarse sand) should be avoided, since they can scratch the tissues of the eye and lead to serious complications until the loss of vision. Slightly pull the upper eyelid and rinse the eye with water. You can use an eye bath, a plain glass or a bottle for this.
If the object is not flushed or if there is discomfort after removal, cover or gently bandage the eye with gauze and immediately consult your nearest ophthalmologist or call an ambulance. Do not put pressure on the eye.
Determine that your eyes are normal, only a doctor is capable of. Therefore, even if you managed to remove the foreign body, consult an ophthalmologist.
How to get to the doctor
If you can see and go, go to the nearest ophthalmologist. Put on dark glasses or cover your eyes with gauze, take your passport and policy.
In an emergency (injuries, injuries, including chemical and thermal burns, foreign bodies entering the eye, sudden pain, sudden drop or loss of vision) you will be taken without a queue. You do not need to take any coupons.
If the eyes are watery, badly hurt or you see the outside world only partially, call for an ambulance.
