As more and more people are turning to alternative sources of chemicals that do not contain chemicals, many natural ingredients are now gaining in popularity. One of them: soursop. Soursop itself is a prickly green fruit similar to a combination of mango and pineapple. The fruit with the Latin name Annona muricata can grow up to 15 kilograms.

Soursop is a native fruit of Central and South America, the Caribbean, Africa and Southeast Asia grown commercially for juicing, sorbet, ice cream, candy, and smoothies. All parts of the tree such as leaves, fruits, bark, and roots are considered to have powerful properties to treat a number of diseases, ranging from back to cancer.

An online article published by the Cancer Center of America discusses a study released in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (1997), suggesting that chemical composites extracted from soursop fruit are more effective at destroying breast cancer cells than chemotherapy.

In fact, soursop leaves have been shown to kill cancer cells 10,000 times more effective than other types of treatments. Soursop is also shown to be very effective in treating the side effects of chemotherapy. The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry is not alone in its findings. The Institute of Health and Science has published more than one paper stating that soursop leaves are very effective in killing cancer cells without harming other body parts.

The National Cancer Institute has the same conclusion, even Purdue University and other universities around the world found similar findings. No further research is done because soursop is a natural substance, and it can not be patented. However, in some countries, it has been used as a treatment for colon, prostate, and lung cancers.
