RE: If Fluoridated Toothpaste Is Swallowed Contact a Poison Control Center Immediately! Science Has Known Fluoride To Be Dangerous For At Least 6 Decades.
those portion sizes need to be considered - they are comparing 100g of raisins to 100g of water. tea absorbs and holds onto fluoride in high quantities (lower quality teas in particular). if plants are watered with fluoridated water it may be that their fruit contains fluoride too - I haven't seen data on that.
The effect of fluoride is cumulative, meaning that even if you are exposed to water that contains 0.5ppm of fluoride, if you drink it and bath in it every day, the effect will build up over time.
True, the portions have to be taken into account. Certainly I don't doubt that fluoride in high concentrations is toxic; the question is what really counts as "high".
Perhaps the fact that fluoride appears naturally in some foods indicates that it's not an acute toxin: the length of exposure and dosage have to be taken into account as well.
Thanks for the thoughts -- I appreciate the discussion!
the cumulative effect is the key here - however, the research I respect states that there is no safe dose per se.
the cumulative effect means that even if the dose is 'low' (whatever that means) - if you are exposed to it daily for years, the dose will become 'high' that way.
for me, the point is that natural exposure to fluoride is not what we experience through fluoridation.
