Hey guys! How are you all?

As you guys already know, I love food. I love eating food and I love preparing a variety of dishes. Therefore I am always on the lookout for stuff that can enhance the taste in my recipes. You also probably know that I am a big fan of all things natural. For today’s natural remedies, I would like to share with you all something that will help you in your recipes as an awesome ingredient but also something that is beneficial for your health.

Black Salt (Kala namak)

So, if you live in India, you are already aware that black salt is a major ingredient in our various dishes as well as the snacks that we like to enjoy in our leisure time. It enhances the taste of food and since it is alkaline in nature, it is also useful for several stomach conditions.

It is sometimes referred to as Himalayan black salt and is greyish in colour but sometimes you can also find hints of purple in it. It’s sulphurous element is what makes it so unique.

But you might be thinking, why black salt?

Well, regular salt, or table salt is the primarily used salt in the whole world. The presence of iodine is a big factor for that as it is very necessary for the body. But black salt is way more healthier despite the fact that there is only an insignificant amount of iodine in it. It actually contains 94 important trace minerals in it including iron which is absolutely necessary for the production of haemoglobin in the blood.

Health Benefits of Black Salt

As I have mentioned before, it is such a great ingredient to have in your food as it helps in key areas of our health. It is also useful to combat several stomach conditions. So, let’s look at some of these.

1. Ideal For Stomach Disorders

Black salt does wonders for your stomach and gives relief from the stomach disorders. It is a great digestive and helps to balance out the acids in the stomach, that the body produces naturally.

It also helps to stimulate the bile secretion that in turn helps to increase your appetite and digest food properly and with more ease. Due to proper digestion, it also helps with bowel movements minus the irritation caused by other laxatives.

It also helps in acidity and heart burns which can be really inconvenient at times. If you want to maximise the effects of black salt on stomach disorders, you can add to it some coriander, cumin or aniseed.

2. Helpful for Flatulence and Abdominal Distension

Sometimes, due to overeating or eating the wrong kind of foods you can get flatulence which is the build up of gas in the intestines. This might also cause abdominal distension which is the swelling up of the stomach or intestines.

Black salt has anti-flatulent characteristics and for that reason, it is advised to take some when you feel the need to relieve yourself. For this, you can use black salt with lemon water. In fact, it will also help you build up your immune system and will naturally regulate the gastrointestinal tract.

3. Helpful In Anaemia

Anaemia is a condition where there is a deficiency of haemoglobin in the blood. Haemoglobin is very necessary for the absorption of oxygen in the blood without which, a person feel tired all the time and looks pale.

Black salt contains tiny amounts of iron compounds but even that is really helpful for this condition. If you are suffering from anaemia, it is advised to incorporate black salt into your diet. For this, you could mix it with table salt also if you don’t want to substitute it completely.
