Cokie Roberts: Some Democrats "Nervously Beginning To Whisper" About Replacing Hillary Clinton
National Public Radio had Cokie Roberts on who asserted that the Democrats might replace Hillary Clinton as their Presidential Nominee.
What do you think? Will the Democrats choose a different nominee?
COKIE ROBERTS: People are angry at the lack of transparency -- it was hours before the diagnosis of pneumonia was revealed -- after seeing this incredibly damaging video of her being helped and stumbling into this van.
Look: There's a reason why the campaign is not transparent. Obviously it gives Trump ammunition, and he has been setting this up for months. Back in January he said that she didn't have the strength and stamina to be president. And then he knew at some point in the campaign schedule, she, like all candidates would get exhausted. But the fact that it comes now, when the polls are tightening and Democrats were already saying that Hillary was the only candidate who could not beat Trump, and it’s taking her off of the campaign trail,cancelling her trip to California today. It has them very nervously beginning to whisper about her stepping aside and finding another candidate...
I think it’s unlikely to be a real thing. I’m sure it’s an overreaction about an already-skittish party, but you know, they have looked at what happens in that circumstance. The Democratic National Committee convenes the convention, and they vote.
Ironically the candidate everyone looks at is Joe Biden, who is even older than Hillary, and then again, so is Donald Trump.
I read an article today suggestion she might have late stage syphilis...

Didn't the Democrat higher ups basically cheat to push her nomination through? They wanted her so badly I think they should just keep her and deal with it.
Why not replace her with Bernie Sanders!? ;)
Bernie Sanders is anti-establishment, they'd never pick him

My opinion is they won't replace Hillary. While a lot of people don't like her, she's still ahead in the polls. The DNC can't ignore that. She will also probably kill Trump in the debates. He's a much better speaker now with a teleprompter. But in a one on one debate, he'll be at a disadvantage. I also think she did have walking pneumonia. I had it years ago and the symptoms were pretty much what she had.
They also won't change candidates because of the timing and logistics. We're less than 60 days from the election. Early voting is starting in some states this week. Some of the military absentee ballots are also starting to arrive. If the Democrats decided to pick a new candidate, it would fall to the DNC to make a selection. The problem is the ballots with the current nominees are already set up ~ with some printed for absentee ballots or those who like paper ballots. In some states it's already too late to change the names ~ the deadline for any changes has passed.
Even Cokie said at the end of that report that it was unlikely the Democrats would replace Hillary. But my hunch is, if they did, they'd go with Biden and this time he'd accept and probably win.
