Doctor confirms the existence of the syndrome "broken heart"

in #health7 years ago

If you ever felt that your heart was breaking in half, you would remember the amount of pain and sadness associated with this "killer" sensation for a long time.

Although the heart is not divided into two halves such as the red caricature that comes to mind, the heart may actually "break" in response to pain or intense emotional stress.

The phenomenon of "broken heart syndrome", also known as "Takotsubo" or neural myocardial infarction, was discovered in 1990 in Japan and mostly affects women.

"Broken heart syndrome occurs when the function of a person's heart pumping is temporarily slowed down in response to severe physical or emotional stress," said Dr. Nicole Harkin, a cardiologist and assistant professor at New York University.
