Stress can come in many shapes and forms, and the troubling thing is, it’s not always recognizable. What I mean here is that you may be experiencing high stress levels, and you may not even realize it. I feel that this is especially the case for entrepreneurs. We’re used to operating at full power, and pushing through punishing work and sleep schedules, in order to make our dreams into reality. But if you’re operating with high levels of stress, it could be negatively impacting your work, and your overall mood and quality of life. I’m a big believer that exercise can improve your mind, body, and spirit, and has the ability to greatly reduce your stress levels. Let’s dive into why.

Backed by science

Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a gym newbie, the fact of the matter is, exercise is shown to reduce your stress levels. Science has shown this time and time again, and we know this to be a fact. To start with, exercise causes your body to release endorphins, which can improve your ability to sleep, and subsequently reduce stress. Plus, researchers have found that doing aerobic exercises reduces tension, can boost your mood, and help your self esteem, all of which can lead to reduced levels of stress.

Why stress can be worse than you think

We know that exercise can reduce stress. But why is stress so bad? Many of us go-getters may even feel we operate best under a little bit of stress, and that we can really flex our muscles when the pressure is turned up. It’s true that stress is crucial as a survival skill, and that a little bit may be beneficial to the outcome. But too much stress can not only damage your emotional wellbeing, but also your physical health. It can wreak havoc on your immune system and lead to high blood pressure, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and heart disease.

How you can incorporate exercise into your routine

Depending on where you’re starting from, this answer will look different for everyone. If you don’t currently have a consistent exercise routine or workout system, now is the time to find one that works for you.

● First, start by picking a time of day to do your exercise. It could be first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or at the end of your day. Find a time that allows you to operate at your peak performance, and stick to it.

● Next, aim to get moving at that time every single day. It doesn’t have to be a full blown workout every day. But if you start to get moving consistently, you’ll reap the benefits more, and notice how much exercise can help improve your mind, body, and spirit.

● Lastly, start working on specific exercises that are best for you. There are endless amounts of workouts and fitness routines you could try, to give you the results you want.
