Does chronic stress cause depression?

Stress is a natural physical and psychological reaction to positive or negative attitudes in your life, such as working with a new job or the death of someone dear to you. Stress is not in itself abnormal or bad, but what matters is how to deal with it.

If you have a problem with adjustment, stress can frustrate and dampen your anxiety. Most of the time you may be in a bad mood, your productivity may be low, you may have problems with your relationships and sleep problems, and you may find it difficult even to practice your daily routine.

You can try some self-tranquilizers to control stress, such as meditation or yoga, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, have a healthy diet, or even reduce your commitments.

If your stress management efforts are not helpful enough, visit your doctor. If you are depressed, you and your doctor can discuss treatment options.
