Why I'm Fruitarian - My Health Journey

in #health8 years ago

It's for health reasons primarily. 5 years ago I became incredibly interested in health and foods. Raw vegan books, vegan recipes, and where to find the cheapest dates where I lived. I don't now what started it all, it just came from within that I needed to change some things. The area I lived in had apple treas in every garden, so in the autumn i went from door to door asking if I could pick some of the them. Almost everyone said: sure! take it all! We can't make use of even half of it. I made glorious fresh apple juice and dreamed about having my own plot of land in the future with fruit treas and veg plots, a green house and a little pond. This is also when I read the Anastasia books, which blew my mind away. Highly recommended reading.

It was a slow ride from the start. Cutting out meat was the easiest. Cheese and bread proved more difficult. I learned that certain foods have addictive properties to them, like cheese (Casomorphins). See: http://ind.pn/1Wb0mOF

Other stuff like bread and meat leave undigested sugars and proteins in the body which attracts natures answer to garbage men; fungus and bacteria respectively. What the body can't break down, it will invite agents of nature to handle. Of course that comes with a price. Fungus, especially candida, leaves behind ammonia and uric acid which are highly acidic. The meat eating bacteria also leaves acid residues.

The body works round the clock to keep its pH balance in check, so logically these acids makes that harder. Keep in mind that every cell of the body also produces acids, 24/7. The lymph system is what handles all this waste, but it can get clogged up (to acidic) if we don't take care.

I noticed some improvements. Most noticeably my constipation being much less a problem. Probably due to cutting the meat out and eating more natural fibers from fruits and veggies.

People would ask me why I only had honey melons for lunch, which in the beginning made me very uncomfortable. I felt like I was standing out to much and rocked the boat eating so differently. I answered mostly it was for health reasons and time saving. Now it's much easier especially when many of my friends are on the same track.

Even though I loved to cook big dinners, and still do, there's something to the simplicity of nature that I find really compelling. I mean it's all ready made for us. The fruit is cooked in the sun, drops to the ground when it's ready to eat.

I'm in an Asian country at the moment and the amount of fruit growing here is astounding. Coming from a western country with its limited supply of fresh fruits and veggies, it baffles me every time we go to the local market, the amount and quality of produce a tropical country provides. Every other day I feel I'm in paradise.

Let's just take a look at a few tropical fruits you can find around here. Can you attach pictures here on Steemit? Huh.. Apparently not yet. I'll post some links instead:

..and this is just to name a few. At the moment I'm living of grapes since they're almost out of season and so juicy. Watermelons are excellent as well and the second choice for me now. Limes are available year round and adds a nice sting to actually most fruits i think. Citruses are acidic in taste but alkaline forming in the body believe it or not.

I'll have to admit sticking to a fruit diet is incredibly hard in today's world, it's been everything but easy for me. Cheap and accessibly junk food, stimulation packed products like cookies, candy, soft drinks messes with our natural instinct for food that actually nourishes us.

As babies we get feed ice cream and candy when we don't shut up. Food is often the last resort to handle "bad tempered" children. What a joke. Some time I'll expand on peaceful parenting and the importance of connecting emotionally with your kids. I'm not a parent, but I can very well see myself as one in the future.

To be continued..
