Cherries contain vitamin C, vitamin A (tart cherries) and potassium. They also contain antioxidants like anthocyanin which gives the cherries their ravishing red colour.

Studies based by the American Institute for Cancer Research have said that extensive research has been done on anthocyanin which is found in cherries and the studies are showing results on how anthocyanin causes the cancer cells to grow and stimulate self-destruction. According to one research, scientists fed some mice a diet comprising of tart cherries and anthocyanin. These mice had a genetic vulnerability to colon cancer. After feeding them this, the mice developed considerably less and minor colon tumours. The study also showed that two human colon cancer cell lines were reduced by these compounds.

The substances packed in cherries have crazy amounts of healing powers. They also cause a process called "Apoptosis" within the body. This means that the cancer cells in the body are triggered by a signal that programs the death of these cells. This results in the cancer cells committing suicide.

The best part about it is that these compounds do not affect the healthy cells in the body! So the best thing to do is to pop a few cherries in your mouth as a daily diet if you want to reduce the chances of getting cancer.
