The Tibetan sound healing in Tibetan Buddhism consists of 5 mantric syllables of healing. With this article, I will briefly present this system. In further subsequent essays the exact execution will be explained.

Bon, the spiritual tradition before the emergence of Buddhism, has mixed with the newer Buddhist conceptions. Parts of these shamanic techniques from the Bon are recognizable in the Tibetan sound healing.

The term "war syllables" points to the struggle for well-being, and can be understood quite literally: By means of these syllables the negative is combated so that health gets the upper hand.

Arrangement of the 5 warrior syllables in the body

• A in the third eye, just above the eyebrows, in the middle of the forehead
• OM in the throat chakra, in the area of the larynx
• HUNG in the heart chakra, centered on the chest at the level of the heart
• RAM in the umbilical chakra, about 2 fingerbreit below the navel
• DZA in the root chakra, between the excretory organs

The colors of the 5 Warrior Syllables

• A: white or clear
• OM: yellow, sunshine
• HUNG: blue
• RAM: red
• DZA: green

Characteristics of the 5 Warrior Syllables

• A: openness and clarity, immutable body
• OM: vastness and light, incessant language
• HUNG: love and light, essence of God, strong purifying effect in the heart, untrue spirit
• RAM: matured and virtuous qualities
• DZA: spontaneous and effortless action, the birth of love, when something is mature it needs no further plan and the birth can be spontaneous.

Basic procedure for intoning the mantras

Each syllable has a corresponding quality of light of a particular color. When we sing the syllables, let us imagine that the light emanates from the chakra. This helps us to dispel any ambiguity of the mind, and to experience the natural radiance of the awakened mind.

Importance of the wind

Each syllable is linked to the wind. The wind clears the overcast sky, and reveals the expanse, then the sun can shine, the gaze is directed to the beauty of creation, then the maturing and the birth takes place. Corresponding to the wind, resonances and vibrations are generated in the body with prana, the vital force, and the syllables.

Negative example (or: how disease develops)

1. You get up in the morning and feel a bit miserable or disgruntled.
2. Now sit long enough in the cloudy sky and wait, then it will go on and sink in the throat.
3. Now you feel really bad, incomprehensible, unexistent.
4. Now sit still and wait, now you begin to hate the state from inside your heart, do nothing more to change the state.
5. Then it goes into the navel to maturity and finally to the manifestation.

Execution (short form)

The execution begins with the A in the 3rd eye and then goes on to the next chakra when the problem to be healed has become quite clear. This may take several weeks. Each mantra is executed in the same way until the respective quality is completely clear, it is pointless to go ahead beforehand.
