How to Yoga - Warrior II

in #health8 years ago (edited)

Good day, Steemians!

Steemit is the gift that keeps on giving,
and my heart overflows in gratitude!
This morning, I was surprisingly challenged
with rampant technical difficulties and un-clarity
to compose this post.
Part of me wanted to quit and go back to bed,
but what does quitting really mean?
Challenges won't go away just because I ignore them--
I can't quit life; I can't quit myself.
My hero tells me that everything is energy, and it's all in alignment
and I will still have the same challenges to deal with
whether I face them Now
or put them off until they pop up in another form.
I've learned that the universe will present a bigger and bigger "problem"
until I learn to deal with it.
Steemit is a gorgeous yoga practice for me this morning!
With focus on my goal, I sat in quiet meditation for a moment
and acknowledged my resistance to this task,
reaffirmed my commitment to success,
and observed my energy shift!
What a tiny little thing that is a ginormous blessing at the same time!
I'm deeply grateful for this platform upon which to explore myself,
I'm deeply grateful that by sharing it I can potentially help another,
and I'm deeply grateful that we're building a revolutionary economy
in doing so! It's a whole new world!!!
I will share more yoga treasures to express my gratitude;
I hope your life is better for it!

This is Warrior II

AKA Virabhadrasana B in Sanskrit
(vira = hero, bhadra = friend, asana = pose/posture)

In many classic practices, warrior II
follows warrior I.
Building on yesterday's yoga,
We will delve into this powerful posture
to unleash untold energy.

Shiva created the warrior demon Virabhadra
in a fit of rage to avenge his wife's death.
Warrior I captures his incarnation
as he burst up through the Earth with
sword raised overhead.

Warrior II reenacts the moment Virabhadra
sets sights on his target,
and resolves to destroy King Daksha.

Duty and focused resolve moved Virabhadra,
rather than rash anger or judgment.

There is dynamic tension in this static posture;
fire up the chakras (energy centers),
build strength,
and gather might for the good fight.

Standing poses energize and vitalize.
Harness the force to slay your own demons
and obliterate all obstacles in your way
with one-pointed focus.

How to WARRIOR II:

  • From warrior I, drop the arms to shoulder height, right hand reaching forward and left reaching back.
  • Square off the hips parallel to the long edge of the mat.
  • Knee stays bent at 90 degrees, left foot is parallel to the short edge of the mat.
  • Maintain even contact with the back foot on the ground, pushing through the edge of the foot.
  • Engage the left leg and pull in unlimited power from the earth.
  • Extend in the upper body. Chest stays wide open, length in the spine, reaching up through the crown.
  • Extend through five points of the body: both legs, arms, and the head.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Breathe in, breathe out.

You can do this!
