Reading your explanation, it sounds like a good thing! I don't go out much into the sun, so I'm generally pretty white (until around the end of summer, when I've had a few moments in the sun). Honestly, I got a sunburn on an overcast day. Did not see that coming... So yes, very important to use sun block!
It's true, you can even get a sunburn in the shadow. I even use a spf 30 on my face in winter. It only prevents your skin from aging so that's a nice plus as well
