The leading destroyers of human liver : Hepatitis B and C

Hepatitis is a major cause of liver cancer and one of the leading causes of death from infectious diseases in the world. It is responsible for the annual death of about 1 in 9 people in both developed and developing countries. Over 160 million people all over the world are infected with hepatitis viruses. Among the hepatitis viruses A,B, C, D and E, hepatitis B and C are the major culprits of liver cancers and liver cirrhosis. They cause hepatotoxicity that eventually leads to death of the afflicted patients. The mode of transmission of hepatitis B and C are the same as that of HIV, therefore precautions taken to prevent HIV infection is needed to also prevent infections by hepatitis B and C viruses.

Treatment
There is currently no known treatment for Hepatitis B and C, but there are antiviral drugs that can help manage the patients and alleviate disease symptoms and luckily, the patients may completely recover and become immune to subsequent exposure to these viruses.
Prevention
There is a vaccine for preventing hepatitis B infection, that confers immunity against the virus for life. Please visit your health care center take the vaccines to prolong lives. While the is currently no vaccine for Hepatitis C , extreme precaution should be taken to avoid infection by hepatitis c virus.
