Functional kidney

The kidney is a great complex of cellular structures that accomplish a lot of different missions:

1. The cortex contains glomerulae that assume blood filtration
2. The medullae is composed with tubules that play impressive works like:

• ion transports between the Intratubular section and the blood section.
• hormonal secretions like
  • erythropoietin (EPO) : very important for red cells multiplication.
  • vitamin D (the 1-alpha hydroxylation of the native vitamins D is assumed by tubules).
  • renine is the local hormone secreted in order to maintain an adequate blood pressure.
