GAINING THAT WEIGHT!!!

This topic i know, seems a lot scaring for many people outhere, considering the current trend and the way the world is evolving. It is almost unthinkable to imagine that not gaining enough weight can pose a problem for some folks, considering the fact that over the last decades the internet and social medias have gone haywire on the need for individuals to stay slim and healthy(the pressure been more on the females compared to males). 


It is therefore no longer surprising to find health tips on how to loose weight popping up on your social media accounts and email, waking up to see people jugging is no longer a strange sight(especially in Nigeria). fitness centers has also immensely benefited from this phobia currently exhibited by people scared of gaining weight, the number of new members currently registering for session at this fitness centers have catapulted to an astronomical height.


The truth is people have every reason to be scared of adding that extra weight because the incidence of obesity has increased over the years with the incidence been more in the devoleped countries and more recently higher incidence in the underdeveloped countries as well. And because of increased sensitization of the health consequences of being obsessed. 


That been said I feel enough attention is not been paid to individuals who are underweight, considering the fact that been underweight can pose a serious health and social problems as much as been overweight. People always  forget this fact and don't mind going the extra miles when they eventually find a solution that allows them loose weight, they over Do it and can become underweight in the process. 


An individual can be considered underweight if the body mass index (BMI) which is a relationship between your height and weight measures less than 18.5


CAUSES OF BEEN UNDERWEIGHT

1. like I mentioned earlier obsessive behaviours about loosing weight

2. ILLNESS: many people loose a large amount of weight when they are Ill because during these period they loose appetite and because of certain medications.

3. GENETICS: some people are naturally thin a condition they inherit from one or both of their parents.

4.PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS: such as depression, eating disorders. 


CONSQUENCES OF BEEN UNDERWEIGHT 

Been underweight comes with a lot of social and health problems individuals should watch out for. 


SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES  OF BEEN UNDERWEIGHT

1. people that are underweight usually have a hard time dealing with unpleasant comments about their appearance as people are fast to conclude that they are ill even if they are not. 

2.Been underweight can result to a low self-esteem and therefore affect interaction with people.

3.it can affect ones career choice as certain sports that requires huge individuals are immediately ruled out even if a person is very good at them. 


HEALTH CONSEQUENCES OF BEEN UNDERWEIGHT

1. hair loss

2. menstrual irregularities 

3. increased tendency to acquire infection

4. compromised immune system

5. osteoporosis 

6. low muscle mass

7. inability to get pregnant

8. complication during pregnancy 

7. anemia

8. irregular hormone regulation


SAFE WAY TO GAIN WEIGHT

EXERCISE: some body building exercise can help you increase your body mass and lead to weight gain. 

INCREASED CALORIE INTAKE: this can be done by increasing the quantity of food eaten and by eating more food that are high in calories. The extra food can be stored as fat. 

FREQUENT EATING: apart from the normal 3 times daily food intake, snacks should be added inbetween

Eat food that are highly nutritious. 


I hope this post helps you consider your habits while trying to loose weight and if you are underweight already I hope it helps you to gain more weight quickly.
