Exercise is often associated with a fitter and healthier body. In fact, researchers believe regular exercise can keep you away from flu and fever.

Even research has shown that mild exercise for 30 to 45 minutes such as walking, cycling, or running can reduce more than half the risk of respiratory infections.

Dr Bruce Barrett, a professor of family care at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, said that in general, physical activity is a good way to protect yourself from disease.

A similar opinion was also expressed by David Nieman, professor and director.

"Your body's immune system needs activities to do its job better," said Nieman quoted from Time, Wednesday (21/02/2018).

"Every time you exercise, you increase immune cell circulation is important," he added.

But what if you were sick then? Is exercise recommended for people who have a cold or fever?

Apparently exercise is not recommended for people who are sick.

"Exercise is great for prevention, but it can be a bad treatment," said Nieman.

Even so, a study from Ball State University, USA shows that moderate exercise does not affect the duration and severity of the flu in general.

"If there are infectious symptoms such as sinuses, nasal congestion, to throat and other disorders, exercise will not heal but also not aggravate," said Nieman.

That is, there is not much danger to continue exercising when ill.

Can not, If ...

But the story will be different if you have severe flu or other systemic infections. Exercise is a bad idea for a fairly severe disease.

"Back to about the 1940s during the polio epidemic, some researchers realized that athletes who play the heavy sports from soccer who get off to the field have polio getting worse," Nieman said.

This observation led to further studies on how the virus responds to exercise, both in primates and humans. The result, said Nieman, a body infected with severe flu can react very hysterically to physical activity.
